About Satsuma Okitsu
Okitsu is one of the best known of the early satsumas. The fruit can be eaten while the rind is still partly green, provided it is ripe inside. Easy peeling, very few seeds and early ripening make it a particularly useful variety for opening the mandarin season.
Our observations at the nursery
In our conditions, Okitsu comes to maturity around mid-December. The fruit is good and free of seeds.
Satsuma Okitsu or another variety?
Okitsu is earlier than Owari. Owari then takes over to extend the satsuma season. To go further, see our Satsuma category.

Yes. As with other early satsumas, the inside can be ripe before the rind has coloured fully orange.
Does it have seeds?
Generally none, or very few.
When should it be harvested?
