Sanguinelli is a Spanish blood orange valued for pigmented fruit and juice.
Blood citrus
Blood citrus covers the varieties able to develop red pigments in the flesh and sometimes in the rind.
Why do they turn red?In blood oranges the pigmentation comes mainly from anthocyanins. Its intensity depends on the variety and the climate; cool nights generally encourage it.
Compare citrus type, ripening period, pigmentation potential, flavour, hardiness and use. Colouring is never guaranteed to the same intensity in every climate.
