About US 119

US 119 is a hybrid of particular interest to collectors of hardy citrus. Its Poncirus ancestry brings the cold resistance, while the two Citrus parents markedly improve fruit quality over the first-generation hybrids. Depending on conditions and on how ripe the fruit is, a light grassy note recalling Poncirus can nonetheless remain.

Our observations at the nursery

At the nursery, US 119 comes to maturity in December. We observe a tendency for the fruit to split, something to keep in mind through the ripening period.

US 119 or another variety?

US 119 aims at a compromise between hardiness and fruit quality. It is generally far more pleasant to eat than a Poncirus, or than some of the first-generation hybrids. To go further, see our Citrus hybrids category.
