About Vaniglia Sanguigno Orange

Vanille sanguine combines low acidity with pigmented flesh. It suits those looking for an orange with a milder flavour profile, as a dessert fruit or for juice; “vanille” in the name does not mean the fruit is flavoured. If its identity as Vaniglia Sanguigno is confirmed, the pink colour of its flesh comes from lycopene: it should therefore not be equated with the anthocyanin blood oranges.

Vaniglia Sanguigno Orange or another variety?

Vanille sanguine should not be confused with a blood orange such as Moro, whose flesh can take on a very deep red colour; both are rated at -8 °C. To explore further, see our “Blood citrus” category.

Frequently asked questions

Does the fruit taste of vanilla?

No. “Vanille” in the name does not mean the fruit is flavoured; its appeal lies in its low acidity.

Is it a blood orange?

Not in the usual sense: if its identity as Vaniglia Sanguigno is confirmed, its pink flesh owes its colour to lycopene, not to the anthocyanins of blood oranges.

How is the fruit used?

As a dessert fruit and for juice.
