Native to Florida, where it was obtained in 1907 by the botanist Walter Swingle, who gave it its name, citrumelo 4475 is a hybrid between a 'Duncan' grapefruit (Citrus paradisi 'Duncan') and Poncirus trifoliata.

Its characteristics: this hybrid gives high productivity on grapefruit and orange trees, and fruit of excellent eating quality.

It is perfectly suited to hot, dry areas and very free-draining soils, which suit its deep root system. It tolerates chalky or clay soils poorly.

Ideal rootstock for oranges and grapefruit.

It is tolerant of tristeza, cachexia and exocortis, and very resistant to Phytophthora and blight.
