About Wekiwa Tangelolo

Wekiwa offers small, juicy fruit whose flesh can develop pink tones in favourable conditions. It was raised in the United States in the early twentieth century. Botanically it is a tangelolo: a hybrid of pomelo and tangelo, with different parentage from a conventional grapefruit. The fruit is valued for its tender flesh and its balance of sugar and acid; it ripens relatively early for a citrus of this group.

Our observations at the nursery

In our conditions, Wekiwa comes to maturity in December. We find the fruit excellent when fully ripe. Its hardiness strikes us as moderate.

Wekiwa Tangelolo or another variety?

Wekiwa differs from the classic grapefruit in its small fruit, its mildness and its lack of strong bitterness. It is above all an unusual citrus for tasting. To go further, see our Tangors and tangelos category.
